One July weekend in 1983, several friends got together for a pleasure drive and an overnight camp out from Salisbury, to Furnace Town, near Snow Hill, Maryland. As a result of that fun and fellowship, the Delmarva Driving Club was established. From seven Charter Members the Club has now grown immensely. We are now over a 100+ members with diverse interests and backgrounds. Would you fit in? Why of course!

Some members are Combined Driving enthusiasts (CDE), some use their equine friends in farm activities, some prefer pleasure drives in the country, some are into 4-in-hand Coach and Tandem-driving, some have a commercial interest. Some members are young...others are not. Some equines have long ears, and others have little bitty ears that fit in your hand. Some are green, and some are polished veterans, and some are famous with magazine covers!

Not all of our members are active drivers, some enjoy participating with us, or are more interested in carriages and history, and simply enjoy the driving community and its activities. We have members from as far afield as NJ, PA and Virginia. We even have a member from Michigan! Most of our activities tend to be in S. Delaware or Central E. Shore MD. Come join us!

2009 by Martie Bolinski

Through the efforts of many volunteers, we were able to accomplish a Pleasure Driving Show, a beginners clinic, 5 drives (although at least that many were cancelled due to bad weather) and the annual Christmas Party. DDC members attended other drives, shows, draft horse events, CDE's and parades as well as participating in CAA's Driving Evaluations.

Jane Ramsey took a first place at Devon in the Single Horse, Two Wheel Class, a wonderful accomplishment. Christie Little wrote a successful essay for the National Morgan Youth Essay Contest and won a registered Morgan Horse. Her sister, Claudia won an award for producing a video on a schooling show.

The weather was uncooperative on several drives/shows/clinic days but we still got out and drove or improved our skills in spite of it.

On behalf of the DDC Board of Directors, I'd like to thank ALL of you for your participation and support this past year!

Did you know that DDC is now holding its monthly Board of Directors meetings in person and via Conference call? Interested in attending but never able to make a meeting. As a member of the DDC, you are welcome to call in and participate in a limited capacity with these meetings. If you plan to "attend' any meeting via conference call, please let us know in advance and we will email or snail mail you the documents under discussion for that meeting. If you would like more information, please contact any of the current officers of the club!
